Rhizome

This was our final year project for the Design Led Futures paper, which we worked in groups with the Industrial Design Students.

DesignLedFutures is an initiative aimed at connecting final year design students with world leading companies to produce provocative visions of the future. The course provided us with an opportunity to confront and learn about the challenges that arise with the assimilation of theoretically based design ideas and philosophies in professional practice. The intention was to give us an insight into an appreciation of the relationship between design thinking and making in both theory and practice.

The goal and scope of the project is to extend beyond iterative predictions based in the near future (10 years) to preconception shattering visions sited in the distant future (80 years).

So basically our goal was to use a range of physical and digitally based media to evolve and communicate a future scenario.

We all worked on the theory and implications of our chosen 2095 scenario, how people live, learn, communicate etc. This was shown through a series of Graphic Motion videos and book.
My main role was site creation, which is a mix of 3D and Flash. Our chosen name was Rhizome (Based on the stem of a plant that pushes it’s roots everywhere). The site was designed to portray this.
By modeling 3D roots system, which once the users selects a section the root will grow and take them to the relevant motion Video.
